Race Car dreams

I met up with Finn earlier this year to find out more about his car and racing career.

We were lucky with the weather and the location was the perfect backdrop for photos and a chat.

Finn told me It was his dad who first got him into cars and motorsport. He said his Dad inighted the spark by taking him to their local go karting track every Saturday and pushing him week in, week out to push for the quickest lap times. Finn says this is what gave him the competitive spark to go racing and 2024 will be his 11th consecutive year of racing.

Whilst on the shoot it seemed only fitting that we got a photo of Finn's car wih his Dad's Lorry.

Finn went on to tell me about the car:

'The car is called a UK Modified it is a purpose built race car for motorsport use and only designed and built by pro race cars in the USA. In this particular chassis we are running a motorsport specific Suzuki GSXR1000 motorbike engine. Running around 200bph in a rear wheel drive car weighing in at just over 500KG'

I went on to ask Finn what it feels like racing this car?

He told me 'There will never be a way to truly describe the way it feels to be able to turn just a single lap in one of these cars. It is truly breathtaking to be pinned back in your seat with the air flowing around your helmet. Everything turns into a blur but at the same time all being in slowmotion. It’s something you HAVE to experience at least once during your life.

My most creditable achievement thus far would be winning my first world championship back in 2019. Ironically my first time setting up a race car almost by myself and then to be able to win a world title in it was just an incredible way to top it off. It’s a moment I won’t forget and certainly one we’re working hard to achieve again.'

Finn went on to tell me more about his dreams going forward with the racing?

'The ultimate end goal will be to become a professional racing driver in NASCAR. Me and my team are doing the upmost to put myself in the best position possible to be able to have the opportunity to prove myself. I also have to use this opportunity to give a massive shoutout to the people who allow me to do this on a weekly basis and put they’re full faith in me. It all starts with of course my family for devoting the weekends to pushing me to my limits and all the late nights in the workshop putting blood, sweat, and tears into the car. Secondly, I’d like to thank Tom Baker and the team at Steering Wheel Nation for the constant support and feedback to push harder and further. Finally, a massive shoutout to Ryan and Harrison Motorsport for the support with the car. All the help and advice allowing me to better myself everytime I hit the track!'

It is safe to say Finn and his team certainly work hard to achieve the goals they set and his dedication and commitment should be commended. It is great to see young talent just starting their jouney and already achieving big things. One to watch out for in the future for sure.
